Message From the President

The Minnesota Academy of Eye Physicians and Surgeons is a nonprofit professional
organization that has proudly represented Minnesota's ophthalmologists for more than a
century. Today, we serve more than 300 medical and surgical eye physicians dedicated
to providing the highest quality eye care to patients across our state. Formerly known as
the Minnesota Academy of Ophthalmology (1985–2024) and the Minnesota Academy of
Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology (1911–1985), we adopted our current name in 2025
to more clearly reflect the extensive medical and surgical training of ophthalmologists.

Throughout the year, we provide a variety of educational programs that support lifelong
learning and excellence in patient care. Our annual Spring Symposium brings nationally
recognized speakers to Minnesota, fostering collaboration, innovation, and professional
development. In addition, our regional meetings and online educational offerings
promote the exchange of clinical knowledge and strengthen the ophthalmic community
throughout the state.

As the voice of ophthalmology in Minnesota, we advocate for policies that protect
patients and preserve access to safe, high-quality medical and surgical eye care.
Through legislative advocacy, public education, and professional advancement, we
work to uphold the highest standards of vision care. Our charitable foundation further
advances this mission by supporting local and global initiatives to prevent blindness,
restore sight, expand services for individuals with visual impairment, and improve
access to quality eye care.

For more than 100 years, our commitment has remained steadfast: to improve the lives
of Minnesotans by promoting, protecting, and advancing the gift of sight. We welcome
the opportunity to answer your questions, collaborate on initiatives that improve eye
health, and serve as a trusted resource for patients, policymakers, healthcare
professionals, and the public.
