Message from the President

The Minnesota Academy of Ophthalmology is the association of Minnesota eye physicians and surgeons (Eye M.D.'s) looking out for your eye health. For almost 100 years, the Minnesota Academy of Ophthalmology, a non-profit organization, has been serving Minnesotans by encouraging and cultivating the study of, and research in, the branch of medical science known as ophthalmology.
Your Eye M.D.'s (Ophthalmologists) have completed extensive training. After an undergraduate degree, they then completed a second degree in medical school, and another year called internship. The graduating doctors who showed a special interest and aptitude in eye problems went on to do an additional 3 to 5 year residency or fellowship program in Ophthalmology where they learned the critical aspects of taking care of your eyes. This includes determining exactly what is wrong with your eye(s) (diagnosis) and treating them in the best possible way. This treatment could be through glasses, medication (eye drops or pills), or surgery. Your Eye M.D.'s are a great resource who are there to help you understand your individual eye concerns, and advocate for you to get the best vision possible.
Our members meet regularly to share and exchange advancements in medical and surgical eye care; thereby improving the standard of care for you. We strive to educate and equip you with the most facts to make informed decisions about your eyecare. We continually strive for excellence in our field.
